LESSON: Luke 5:17-19 “ON ONE OF THOSE DAYS, as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. AND THE POWER OF THE LORD WAS WAS WITH HIM TO HEAL. And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus. And when he saw their faith, he said, ‘Man, your sins are forgiven you.'”
“On one of those days,” that “opening” line in this passage is no less than intriguing! If you rewind the tape just a few feet you will get a better snapshot of the absolute power of this phrase. Jesus was, with all reverence and honor “on a roll.” Once again the “beautiful outlaw” himself was roaming about so naturally doing the supernatural. Fulfilling the Father’s mission everywhere His soles tread. With no internet, no Facebook, no Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat, the lame, deaf, blind, dumb and sick had their ears low to the ground and gathering like grape clusters to possibly get within close proximity and be made whole by just one touch of His glory. Others gathered who unfortunately had ulterior motives and intently seeking to seize any opportunity to put an end to this one they labeled a lunatic. This one “rebel” that was cutting across the grain of their garments of religiosity. But in their midst suddenly their appear the real “superheroes.” No, not Batman, Superman or Spider-Man, but the ones with no cloak or shiny mask. No light sabers or throwing stars. These, were clothed in absolute humility, servanthood and wearing the badge of the eternal Kingdom.
They were thick skinned, like rhinos carrying, escorting, if you will, their paralytic comrade to the One who makes all things new. They too, were on a mission and as a result their two worlds collide. The “One” sent meets the “one” brought and the symphony of Heaven is brought to crescendo by the infinite grand conductor. “On one of those days” marrow, bone, cartilage and flesh were awakened and the abundant life was made manifest. Boldness, perseverance and faith once again paved the way for the King to witness and distribute the reckless mercy and love of the Father.
EXERCISE CHALLENGE: Here’s what we’re gonna do. Ask Holy Spirit to give you the opportunity to be a “superhero,” and by that I simply mean to be one of the ones that will crouch really low at the cross and be utilized to bring one of his children to Him to be set free. Maybe there’s a healing service in Metairie on Monday nights in a hotel room where you could literally carry someone and ask that you be filled with the faith of a child. With a faith tenacity and a no retreat, no surrender mentality, that Jesus desires to and will break the prison shackles off and replace it with freedom and true healing.
ACTIVATION: Holy Spirit, thank You. Release and impart all that we need in order that we might participate in bringing life to dead bones. Sight to the blind, sound to deaf ears and that the lame would run and skip. Let us be fully yielded to You and the will of the Father so that we are a pleasing fragrance to Him. We love, honor and praise You. Amen.
